- Chuan Keng Boon (庄耿文) was born in Singapore in 1953. He received his first formal lessons in art when he was in Secondary 3 from Mr. Chen Wuchi, Singapore's well-known painter of tigers, who was then teaching at Anglican High School. He graduated with a B.A. from Nanyang University in 1977. During his university days, he learnt Chinese brush painting from Mr. Chen for nearly 2 years. In 1975, he was introduced to another well-known artist, Mr. Fan Changqian and received invaluable tips from him. Keng Boon has held 3 solo exhibitions in 1981, 1988 and 1995. He has also participated in many group exhibitions in Singapore and overseas between 1978 and 2000.

Press Release on the Art Exhibition: CAPTIVATING BEAUTY OF INK EXPRESSIONS – The Art of Chuan Keng Boon

In memory of the late Mr Chuan Keng Boon, his family and Hwa Hun Art Society are proud to present an exhibition entitled: CAPTIVATING BEAUTY OF INK EXPRESSIONS – The Art of Chuan Keng Boon from 7 to 10 October 2011 at ARTrium@MICA. A display of 80 pieces of Keng Boon’s impressive works ranging from traditional Chinese ink paintings featuring landscapes, flowers, birds and fish, to modern art featuring Singapore scenery such as Chinatown, the Singapore river, and his bold interpretation of abstract art with Chinese ink.
In conjunction with this exhibition, Keng Boon’s art book of the same title will be launched. Over 180 paintings which were created in the recent years are published in this book; and out of which, 80 of them will be displayed in this coming exhibition.
Born in Singapore in 1953, Keng Boon’s passion for art started as early as his childhood days. In his youth, he received his invaluable art lessons from well known artists Mr. Chen Wuchi and Mr. Fan Changqian. In 1989, Keng Boon won the Tan Tze Chor Art Award for the best Chinese ink painting. In 1993, he participated in the 12th "Painting Of The Year" competition organised by United Overseas Bank and won 1st prize in the traditional Chinese painting category.
Keng Boon also held 3 solo exhibitions in 1981, 1988, 1995 and participated in many group exhibitions both in Singapore and overseas between 1978 and 2010. He also participated in many cultural, social and arts organisations, playing an important role.
Keng Boon graduated with a B.A. from Nanyang University in 1977.
The art exhibition will be officially opened by Dr Ho Kah Leong, President of The Singapore Arts Federation on 8 October at 3pm.
